The Story of Baxter the cat

My daughter Aimee went to the Hawera SPCA just before Christmas around 2004 to get her boyfriend a puppy. She came to me at work an hour later with tears in her eyes and a kitten cradled in her arms. She had saved him from death row and wanted to give him a home somewhere. What started out as a cute kitten has erupted into a naughty 'you aren't the boss of me' freeloader. 10 years later, my husband has calmed down, claimed the cat as his and Baxter lords it over all other house residents. He grew to his potential at 32 1/2 inches long, does as he pleases and his best friend is the dog. Every now and again we get a glimpse of how much he appreciates being saved and that keeps us his pets for a bit longer.
