Shaka is a gentle giant, full of love for his human friends/whanau. It is with a very heavy heart that we have to rehome him. We’ve had him since a pup (he is 5 years old now) – the biggest in his litter. He is extremely well trained and disciplined. He’s loyal; energetic and fun – particularly loves swimming even when it involves smashing through surf to get to a stick!; he can run up/down a beach in front of a ute at 40ish kms/hr (grew up at Muriwai beach); great protective guard dog but easy to control (i.e. if he is concerned about a stranger and barks, he remains attentive to your commands if you tell him to leave the person alone and to ease up, he will even obey your commands and not chase a cat or other animal when you tell him not to!); his only vice (in mums opinion) is that he still thinks he’s a little puppy and wants to sit in your lap and all over you and lick you (but again will stop if/when you tell him to). He is ~50kgs so he is a BIG heavy boy. For smaller, weaker, frailer owners or dog walkers he walks really well on a “Halti” making it possible for nanas and kids to walk him too if you want. Shaka’s desexed. He doesn’t tend to “roam” either, preferring to stay on his property with his family even if a gate is left open. Gets on well with other dogs (current owners’ 3 siblings also have dogs so there are often 4 dogs on 1 property at family occassions), but isn’t huge on “playing” with other dogs preferring to chase sticks and run around with his family (he’s the oldest of those 4, and acts like the wise older one).
