π **Heartbroken to be looking for a new home for our beautiful boy** π
This is one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make. We absolutely adore him, but we need to find the right home for our nearly 7-year-old male German Shorthaired Pointer.
He is an **incredibly loving, loyal and affectionate boy**. He loves cuddles, attention and being with his people, and he is a real character who brings so much personality to our home. When he isn’t out adventuring, he is more than happy to sleep and relax.
He absolutely loves **swimming, running, exploring and sniffing** and would thrive with an active person or family who can give him plenty of exercise, adventure and mental stimulation.
He is **smart, very food motivated and highly trainable**, and responds really well to training. He is desexed, fully vaccinated and crate trained.
πΎ **A few things about him:**
* Very sociable with other dogs
* Enjoys being around other dogs but is also very good at taking himself away when he wants some space
* Good around teens and, if he becomes annoyed, will generally choose to move away
* Very affectionate and people-oriented
* Crate trained
* Desexed and vaccinated
* Very food motivated and responsive to training
* Loves swimming, running and sniffing
* Has experience with an e-collar due to us living on an unfenced property. Once he has established the property boundary, he respects it and remains within the boundary even without the collar
The reason we are considering rehoming him is our **crawling baby**. Since having our son, it has become increasingly clear that he is not comfortable with a crawling baby moving around his space. He has snapped to correct the baby, which we have taken as a warning. We live in a small home, which makes it difficult to give him the distance and space he needs.
He has been fine with teens, but with a crawling baby, we don’t feel we can reliably give him the space and control over his environment that he needs. We don’t want to wait for a situation to escalate, and we believe finding him the right home is the responsible thing to do.
He does have **occasional resource guarding around bones**, which would need to be understood and managed appropriately. He is completely fine with his normal food.
We are therefore looking for a **loving, child-free home, ideally without young children**, where he can be someone’s adored companion and have the attention, exercise and space he deserves.
This is **not because he is a bad dog**. Quite the opposite. He is a wonderful, loving boy, and making this decision is absolutely heartbreaking. We want to do what is best for him rather than put him in an environment where he is regularly uncomfortable or stressed.
He has so much love to give and would make an incredible companion for someone who understands the GSP breed and wants a loyal, affectionate, active dog who is equally happy to curl up beside you afterwards.
We are **not in a rush** and will be very selective about where he goes. Our priority is finding him the right home for the rest of his life. β€οΈ
