Safety

Account and privacy

Meeting the pet in person is the best protection for owners and adopters.

  1. Keep chatting on Pet Rescue until you’re ready to meet. Your contact details stay private.
  2. Arrange to meet in person and see the pet before anything is agreed.
  3. Meet in person before paying. Never pay a deposit, courier or transport fee up front.
  4. On the day, open Handover pack in your conversation and go through the checklist together.
  5. Pay any rehoming fee at the handover, not before. Then both sign and tap Print or save as PDF.

Good to know

  • Hand over vet records and certificates, and start the microchip transfer on the NZ Companion Animal Register.
  • For dogs, owner and adopter each tell the council within 14 days.
