Adopting in New Zealand — common questions

Is it free to adopt on Pet Rescue NZ?

Browsing and enquiring are always free. Some owners ask a small rehoming fee, which is shown on every listing.

How do I know a listing is genuine?

New listings are screened before they go live. Always meet the pet in person, and never pay a deposit, courier or transport fee before you do.

Can I meet the pet before deciding?

Yes. Arrange a meet and greet with the owner. Most owners are happy to do a trial visit.

Do I need to register my dog?

Yes. Dogs over three months old must be registered with your local council and microchipped.
